Coaching is changing ....into Workforce

Workforce 1New roles are emerging to suit participant needs. Whether you are a coach, activator, facilitator, instructor, leader, teacher, trainer, staff, volunteer or something similar we are now using the term Workforce to incorporate all roles involved in Sport and Physical Activity...

We are currently developing a Local Workforce Framework for Wiltshire which will focus on 4 main areas:

  1. Coaching
  2. Professional Workforce
  3. Volunteering
  4. Clubs

 

Coaching:

Good coaches inspire people to get active and stay active. Good coaches also guide those on a journey of improvement, including those with talent, to progress faster and further than they could on their own.

At the moment, coaching predominantly supports the people who already have a regular sporting habit. These people are important, and improving their experience is a key aspiration. But for the first time, we are working alongside Sport England to unleash the power of coaching for all of those people taking their first steps to becoming more physically active so that they too can benefit from the support that good coaches provide. To achieve this, there is a need to reconsider the way that coaches are recruited, developed and deployed so that they can reach a wider audience and support more people to reach their goals.

WASP are committed to working with Sport England and support the Coaching Plan for England to change the way people experience sport through Coaching in an Active Nation.

 

Professional Workforce 1Professional Workforce:

Sport England are working closely with The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) in producing a number of Professional Standards related to Coaching in the UK.

The new standards provide an agreed reference point of the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of paid coaching assistants and coaches, and will not only inform the development of future coaching qualifications and training but also support the effective deployment of coaches. WASP are working with Sport England & CIMSPA to implement these standards at a local level.

 

Volunteering:

Volunteers have always played a vital part in the sport and physical activity sector. Without them, most activity simply wouldn’t happen.

Volunteers who give their time for sport and physical activity to happen in their community enjoy many of the benefits associated with actually participating in sport and physical activity.

Their Volunteering 1experiences can fulfil many areas including physical and mental wellbeing, individual development, social and community development and economic development.

So, when someone provides their time, energy and expertise as a volunteer there’s a double benefit - for those playing and for themselves. WASP are working with Sport England to harness and increase the dual benefit along with creating great new opportunities for people who want to give time and improving the experience of those who already do.

Clubs:

Sport England are currently working on developing a new Club Strategy that will look to understand the customer more, keep people active, create opportunities for families to take part together and prevent safeguarding issues. WASP are working with Sport England and providing input and insight into the new strategy.
