1) PE and Sport Premium funding announcement and impact
The announcement of the double funding has certainly given schools a boost! Whilst some are still hearing this for the first time, we, like you, have seen a very significant increase in contact from schools looking to embed or expand their work with us to create a sustainable and measurable impact across PE and physical activity. The tweaked guidance, though subtle, does strengthen the investment in long term, cultural changes to PE, not short cuts.
A major driver of this has been the PE and Sport Premium and Health framework and tool (Wheel). This is supporting schools to celebrate impact, identify next steps and signposts solutions. The feedback from Subject Leaders and Headteachers in particular has been very positive. Let's support schools to really make the most of this situation. CSPs already using the PE and Sport Premium and Health Wheel include: Active Devon, Active Surrey, Active Sussex, Kent Sport, Active Essex, Active Norfolk, Yorkshire Sport Foundation, London Sport, Energise Me and Wiltshire and Swindon Sport.
We are delighted that we are still in a unique position to fully support Subject Leaders and schools to celebrate the impact of real PE and real play using our simple impact reports. The impact reports can easily be added as a pdf to schools' websites. A real PE impact report, for example, shows:
- · Staff confidence
- · Pupil engagement
- · Pupil progress
- · The broader impact of real PE across the school.
An impact report can be used as evidence on any schools PE and Sport Premium and Health Wheel!
N.B. A real PE impact report is only accessible if schools have completed a real PE Whole School inset.
- family activity levels
- children’s Personal, Social and Emotional skills
- parents’/carers’ engagement and confidence
- children’s physical development
3) Flexible solutions for real PE and real gym Whole School
The increase in demand for schools to embed, launch or refresh their staff in real PE and real gym has meant we have developed new and flexible ways of delivering support beyond the traditional 'inset' day. Schools have found models such as afternoon or twilight insets incredibly supportive to fit into their increasingly demanding days.
