New survey to provide detailed picture of the physical activity habits of children and young people in England. WASP have been tasked with engaging the selected schools in the survey and where necessary supporting them in the completion of this. We have a range of supporting documents, including examples of the survey questions, and these will be shared with schools who participate
For the last 10 years Sport England have conducted a national survey on the levels of participation in sport and physical activity, along with some questions about involvement in arts, cultural and volunteering activities. The focus of this research has been on the 16+ but following discussions with the Department of Education and Department of Health it has been decided to now involve 5-16 year olds in the survey. The information collected will help Sport England to invest in opportunities for children and young people to take part in and benefit from sport and physical activity.
40 schools will be randomly selected from Wiltshire and Swindon each year to participate in the survey with selected year groups and classes identified by the researchers. For those early year pupils selected there is also an opportunity for parents to participate in the survey.
WASP have been tasked with engaging the selected schools in the survey and where necessary supporting them in the completion of this. We have a range of supporting documents, including examples of the survey questions, and these will be shared with schools who participate.
Schools taking part will receive a modest financial reward but more importantly a bespoke report on the results from their school on activity levels and student’s attitudes to physical activity.
The first group of schools who have been selected to participate have been contacted and in November we will be in touch with the next group of schools selected. We hope schools will see a value in taking part in the research, which over time will provide a detailed picture of young people’s participation in sport and physical activity in our County.
