The route starts at the magnificent Uffington White Horse on White Horse Hill. A prehistoric hill figure over 100m long and formed from deep trenches filled with crushed white chalk. From here the route passes the ancient Uffington Castle and surrounding fort before joining the Ridgeway, following a route used since prehistoric times by travellers, herdsmen and soldiers. We head west into the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The terrain and views are stunning, and constantly change as the route passes the ancient castles of Liddington and Barbury. Just before the finish you walk through the spectacular Avebury Stone Circle, the largest stone circle in Europe and one of the greatest marvels of prehistoric Britain.
This hike is suitable for experienced and novice hikers (although it is still important to prepare and train). It is mostly on paths. Please wear appropriate clothing/footwear, suitable for varied terrain and weather conditions
Once you've parked your car or been dropped off, please head for the Cancer Research UK marquees where we will gather you together before you board the bus.
Supporter / spectator access
Spectators are welcome to see you off at the start, cheer you back at the finish, and meet up with you at one of our three support points along the way (but they will require their own transport to do so). Details will be available on the morning - please ask at the Enquiries Marquee for locations / postcodes.
