Wiltshire has a large and ageing older population. Population of 65+ and 80+ year-olds is expected to double by 2035. 31% of Wiltshire’s population will be over 65 by 2035; 11% of those will be over 80 years old. Demand for services related to ageing and the need for care at home continue to rise.
The numbers of older people likely to live alone is projected to increase significantly between now and 2030 (52% for 65 – 74 and 70% for those aged 75+). WASP recognizes Older People are especially vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation – and it can have a serious effect on health. But there are ways to overcome loneliness, even if you live alone and find it hard to get out and one of those we have prioritized is providing opportunities to engage in sport and physical activity.
