Loud cheers rung out at the School Games Hockey Competition
9 Primary School teams entered from across the county including; Oare, Holt, Winterslow, Crudwell, Oakhurst,Ramsbury, The Mead, Broadshakle and Nursteed.
Once everyone was kitted up in full goal keeper gear, shin pads and gum shields we were ready for the group stages. Using the two pitches there were two groups playing a round robin format.
Young leaders from The Corsham School were great at officiating and making sure all the scores were recorded and teams were in the right place at the right time. They were very helpful, mature and supported the umpires who were; Chuck the County Hockey umpire secretary, Jackie and Carolien from Corsham Hockey Club, Sam from Devizes Hockey Club and Verity Longfield from England Hokcey who ran the event on the day. Thanks to them all for giving up their time and making the event run so smoothly.
On pitch 1 there was a tie for the first place in the group and there were some loads cheers when the teams heard they were through to the final and who was in the play off for 3rd and 4th places.
Crudwell School were working so well as a team and they had such belief in themselves that they went into the final against Ramsbury so exciting and enthusiastic it was great to see. It was hard for Ramsbury to overcome this and Crudwell won with a goal near the end of the game.
Holt played The Mead in the runners up playoff and it was a really close game but The Mead pulled through to come 3rd overall.
It was a really great competition with all schools enjoying themselves irrespective if they were winning or not.
A credit to their teachers for encouraging them to work as a team and to support each other.
Winners - Crudwell
