Swindon Shock Wheelchair Basketball

Swindon Shock was set up as part of the Swindon Borough Council’s Ability Sports Project in 2011 but now is an totally independent, self-funding constituted club affiliated to GB Wheelchair Basketball Association.

As a team Swindon Shock was formed to assist young people in a transition stage from youth centre to club status. By joining the club young people were still able to go back into the youth centre as a volunteer. In addition to volunteering and playing basketball, young also got key opportunities to receive sporting qualifications, while picking up valuable experience assisting coaches. This in turn produced coaches for local authorities and schools in an area where we are struggling for after school clubs. To date Swindon Shock has coaches with basketball, wheelchair basketball, officiating, Table Officiating, Fitness instructing, Quicksticks, Ultimate Frisbee and much more. Working with the Leisure Services team our coaches have CRB, Child protection and emergency first aid certificates.
