Tennis is on the move at Royal Wootton Bassett Tennis club

Royal Wootton Bassett Tennis ClubOpening September 2015, the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground is a superb, modern sports facility for the people of Royal Wootton Bassett and surrounding areas.  The ground extends over a 23 acre site and will contain football pitches, cricket pitches and eight floodlit tennis courts.  The facility is owned and managed by the RWB Sports Association (RWBSA) who have been administering Major Buxton’s legacy to the town for the past 80 years.

The new site will be home to the town’s football, cricket and running clubs as well as the Royal Wootton Bassett Tennis Club.  The move has been made possible by the sale of the original 7 acre site for housing.

The proceeds have all been re-invested in this new development and generous grant funding from Sport England, the Football Foundation, the ECB and local companies have made it possible.

The project has been in the pipeline for over 10 years, and suffered many setbacks and disappointments in the changing economic circumstances.  That it is finally coming to fruition is testament to all the clubs’ determination to grow and to the work of a dedicated volunteer project team.

Royal Wootton Bassett Tennis Club is a thriving modern tennis club registered with the LTA.  We are actively seeking to increase membership to make full use of our new facilities and our membership has grown by more than 30% in the last two years.

David Lukens, Club Chair, said “We are tremendously excited to be moving to our new site this September.  We have great ambitions to increase the number of tennis players in our community, and these facilities will make it possible.”

Zoe Bambridge, LTA Regional Participation Manager, said “The new facilities are fantastic and there is a great opportunity to get more people playing within the local community.  I am looking forward to their Open day on September 6th.

We offer a complete, year round coaching programme for juniors and adults, run by our Head Coach Ali Ward and his Assistant Coach, Shaun Smith.

We enter 14 teams into the Swindon & District League (the highest number of any club), with the top Men’s, Women’s and Mixed teams playing in Division 1.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly, welcoming club and offer lots of fun, social tennis and tournaments for all standards of players.  Our new facilities will enable us to welcome more members as well as offering the community the opportunity to use the courts on a pay and play basis.

Royal Wootton Bassett Tennis Club are hosting an open day to celebrate the new facility on September 6th between 2.00 and 5.00. You can use the brand new facilities free of charge and have some coaching sessions for all the family; everyone is welcome.
