About Rugby Union

Rugby UnionRugby Union is played with an oval shaped ball on a large field with two H shaped goalposts at each end. Played between two teams of 15 players each, the team with the most points at the end of the 80 minute game wins.

Points can be scored in several ways; a try, putting the ball to the ground in the in goal area, scores 5 points, with a subsequent successful conversion kick scoring another 2 points; a successful penalty kick over the goalposts scores 3 points.

Balls must be thrown backwards or to the sides, blocking is not allowed on ant other player than the ball holder, when the ball is knocked forward by a players' arms a scrum is carried out, and when the ball leaves the side of the field, a line out is played. Line outs do not occur in Rugby League.

The Rugby Football Union is the governing body for Rugby.
