The word Gymnastics derives from the Greek 'gymnastikos' which means 'fond of athletic exercises, 'gymnasia' meaning 'exercise and 'gymnos' meaning 'naked, because athletes exercised and competed wearing no clothes!

Once engaged in gymnastics with a local club, many choose to stay and compete on a club level, while others find that the balance and skills developed through gymnastics can be applied to other sports.

Support and coaching from qualified and experienced coaches is key to enjoying gymnastics and being successful. Gymnastics is widely coached and practiced across the country, and more information can be found on the Governing Body website, www.british-gymnastics.org
