England Athletics May update

england athleticsThere is another busy weekend ahead with the Loughborough International Athletics event on Sunday, see details of our team below, and we are delighted to once again be supporting the Highgate Harriers' Night of the 10,000m PBs. Clubs should note the opportunity to apply to be part of Game Changers - a package of support related to youth focussed volunteer activity - closes this weekend. We also bring your attention to the Team Personal Best programme where clubs nationwide can make the most of registering its events as part of our London 2017 work, the ECCA AGM, and a look ahead to our Autumn endurance conference.

 

Loughborough International team announced

England Athletics are pleased to announce the team to compete at the Loughborough International match on Sunday 21st May.  England will take on teams from Scotland, Great Britain & NI Juniors, Wales, Loughborough Students, and British Universities.

First Team Personal Best event of the summer

Last week the Team Personal Best team braved the rain and the hail stones to take a trip to Sutcliffe Park Athletics Track for the first Team Personal Best event of the year.  Cambridge Harriers' Open Young Athlete Trials is an annual event for young people interested in athletics to come and give it a go, and get a feel of what an athletics track and field event is like.

Get up close to the action - Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs

You can enjoy the unique experience of the annual Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs event this Saturday. It is completely free to attend the event which includes a series of races culminating in the 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championship GB Trials and British National Championships with nine Olympians involved.  Plus there's a “Legends Endurance Seminar” with Paula Radcliffe, Lord Sebastian Coe and Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Chorlton Runners - CEO Club visit

The sight of Swansea Harriers’ Matthew Rees assisting David Wyeth of Chorlton Runners along the finishing straight of the Virgin Money London Marathon was an act of sportsmanship towards a fellow runner that touched the hearts of millions and, perhaps, brought those two clubs into focus.  Yet for those active in the sport across North West England, the Chorlton singlet has become an increasingly regular sight at local and regional races and parkruns and beyond.

Toronto Marathon team selection

Following performance at the Virgin London Marathon and England Championships last month, a team of six athletes have been selected to represent England at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon in October.

2017 National Endurance Conference: 28 October

England Athletics are delighted to announce the preliminary details of the 2017 National Endurance Conference.  The theme is "How to Win" and will help delegates learn from the very best what it takes to get your athlete to the very top.

Game Changers funding for Clubs: deadline 21st May 

Funded by our partners Spirt of 2012, our Game Changers Young Volunteer Programme offers the opportunity for clubs to apply for a package of support related to building local partnerships with youth-focused organisations to involve more young people through volunteering at the club.  The closing date for applications is Sunday 21st May.

The 10th Annual Open Meeting of the ECCA (English Cross Country Association) will be held in Derby on Saturday 20th May 2017 at 12 noon.  A representative from all Clubs affiliated to England Athletics is welcome to attend and vote.
